Professional Review (PR)

Course start dates – First Monday or Tuesday of every month.

Mode of study – Via live online webinars, recorded tutorial sessions, and written materials, all provided via our online portal.

The final stage to gaining Chartered Membership is the Professional Review (PR). Upon passing your PR assessment, you will become a Chartered Member of the Institute of Building. We appreciate that candidates are usually in full time employment, often with additional personal commitments, and subsequently find the time and costs of travelling to venues challenging. This course is designed to provide a convenient and cost-effective method of working towards Chartered Membership status whilst ensuring that candidates feel supported with their studies. Interactive webinars create the virtual classroom environment, and an on-line Teams group chat provides the peer-to-peer interaction which we know aids learning and results.

These webinars are in a live virtual classroom format, ensuring you feel that you are in a friendly and safe environment, studying as part of a group rather than in isolation. The course webinars take place at 12:30 UK time and last one hour. The whole course lasts approximately 14 weeks. Your tutor – Steve will be your tutor throughout the course providing consistency and depth of experience. Steve offers guidance and marking for candidates completing their PR application forms, as the fourteen competencies that require evidencing need to be demonstrated in a very particular way through personal experience and clearly written examples. As a member of the Professional Review panel for the CIOB, Steve fully understands the evidence required to score the minimum of 75 marks out of 125 which is required to proceed straight through to Chartered status.

Assessment – Following completion of the PR application, applicants then submit their forms to us for an initial compliance check to ensure that the application has been correctly completed and all required supporting documentation included. Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL)

Course start dates - Flexible

Mode of Study - The first part of the assessment is a free telephone conversation to establish if you do meet the criteria for inclusion on this route.

APEL is the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning and this route to MCIOB (Chartered Construction Manager)and  is for those applicants that currently have the designation of either ACIOB or ICIOB but do not have the higher-level qualifications that give access to the Professional Review (PR).

The CIOB launched this route in March 2021, and it will close in May 2025.

If you have been stuck in this grade for some time, this is your opportunity to gain MCIOB status, potentially without the need to undertake the Chartered Membership Programme (CMP) course.

Assessment - Once accepted onto the APEL pathway you will need to attend a 1-hour video interview with Steve to assess that you have the knowledge required to bypass the CMP course, and also the ability to undertake the professional review and attain a 60% pass.

The interview has two sections, one for the CMP knowledge assessment, and one for the PR assessment. These are tested during the formal video interview.

If the assessment indicates that you are successful, you can proceed straight to the PR.

Cost - £420.00 + VAT

Includes:

  • 1-hour APEL assessment
  • CIOB registration fee of £50
  • Submission of formal report to the CIOB with the outcome of the interview
